Welcome to the website of Taiyu Okatani, currently an Assistant Professor at Department of Robotics, Graduate School of Engineering, Tohoku University, Japan. My research lies at the intersection of nano/micro engineering and robotics, with a focus on advanced sensor technologies based on MEMS (microelectromechanical systems), metamaterials, and flexible electronics. By integrating novel sensors created using micro/nanofabrication techniques into robotic systems (and more broadly, "mechano-informatic" systems), I aim to develop novel robotic sensing systems that will revolutionize the human-robot collaborative society. "Think, act, and innovate." - this is the mindset of my research, always pursuing technology that is valuable to society, both theoretically and practically. By exploring new possibilities for robots equipped with advanced sensors, I hope to contribute to a better future in which humans and robots coexist.
